I am a native Montanan, born and raised in Missoula, where I developed a love for this last best place and the unique opportunities available here.

I purchased my first slr (an Asahi Pentax) upon graduation from high school in 1966 and have pursued my photographic hobby since.

A 1973 graduate of the University of Montana, I was a secondary language arts and journalism teacher through my retirement in 2000. I pursued my journalistic interests as a part-time employee of the Daily Missoulian from 1980-89, serving as sports beat writer covering Montana Lady Griz and Montana Grizzly basketball.

I also co-owned, with my wife Carol, a local coffee retail-wholesale coffee roaster, from 1992-2007.

Besides photography, my interests include hiking, gardening, jazz and camping...

In recent years I’ve returned to my journalistic and photojournalistic interests, and for five years published two blogs featuring my writing and photography.
